Websites

One of the big things I’ve improved while creating alongside the team at Loop Creative is website design, especially in Squarespace. Trying to figure out ways to deliver on client requests and make sites more interesting than the defaults has made me learn a lot more about HTML, CSS, and Javascript.

The North Carolina Local Food Council (NCLFC)

The Issue:

Their old website had some formatting issues, some broken links, and a color palette that was harsher than what the Council wanted. They wanted to showcase their affiliates, partners, and members more accessibly.

The Solution:

The Loop Creative team (@followtheloop ) and I created a color palette and chose typefaces that were friendlier and more engaging. We audited the old site and came up with a new navigation scheme that was better for user interaction. The new site features some custom code for a full-bleed interactive slideshow, anchor links (to jump to different points on a page), and dropdowns so that the sheer amount of information isn’t overwhelming. I made a style guide and held some training sessions with the NCLFC team so they could keep the site up to date.

TESTIMONIAL

"This process was so exciting and fun! You made it so easy for us and we are so happy with the final product. I wanted to especially thank Abra for putting so much work into this and for taking the extra time to help me learn some design skills (which I will definitely carry with me beyond this position).”

The Issue:

This author had a new book coming out and wanted to refresh her branding and her website.

The Solution:

The Loop Creative team (@followtheloop ) and I developed branding that felt more personal. Then I got to work on the website - adding custom code, using filters and motifs for a consistent visual experience, transferring her immense blog from her old website (a then-impossible task to automate), creating custom illustrations to update the branding on her PDFs and e-Books, double and triple-checking that links went to the right places, testing my photoshop and illustrator skills, and really focusing on the user experience of the site.

TESTIMONIAL

“I just showed the website to my husband and he was BLOWN AWAY. I really cannot thank you enough. I would love to write a testimonial for your website. The creativity and attention to detail was beyond anything I’ve seen on anyone’s site.”

Adventure Heart Peru

The Issue:

They needed a brand refresh. Their previous website felt unfinished and they were having issues with images and text displaying properly. They had lost access to their website backend. Parts of their English-facing site were in Spanish.

The Solution:

I created a proposal and went through several logo iterations with them before settling on their final branding.

For their website, I:

  • Made sure visuals were consistent

  • Cleaned up their copy so that phrases were clear for English speakers (their main traveling audience); this was the bulk of the work

  • Added custom code for dropdowns so that the vast amount of information was easy to navigate and not as overwhelming for users

AGAPE of NC

The Issue:

They needed to be rebranded for a friendlier, more family-centric feel. Their old website was copy-heavy, repetitive, and hard to navigate.

The Solution:

The Loop Creative team and I worked with their committee to create a new brand that felt much more true to the character of the organization.

Then I updated their website to match with:

  • Custom code

  • A specific photography style

  • Moving their old blogs and news articles over

  • Custom photography treatments in Photoshop and Illustrator

This organization is a long-term client for whom I have continued to perform website maintenance and create new pages and newsletters.
